Daddy Day 1.0

My first Father's Day began with a big breakfast by Roo. I love the way she makes toast in the oven...toasty on one side and soft on the other. I prefer mine buttered with grape jelly over cinnamon but both very nicely compliment a plate of bacon, eggs and fruit. After the hearty meal, we got dressed for church. It was a big day: baby dedications. Aubrey tricked us into thinking she'd already had her daily morning blow-out diaper before we left but when I went to the nursery to check on her, she wasn't wearing her Sunday dress. Mommy to the rescue, of course! With Aubrey, she never misses a beat and is never caught off-guard. We made it front-and-center as all-dolled-up as we were when we left the house earlier that morning. The ceremony was great. We used Proverbs 3:6 as Aubrey's life verse and committed ourselves to raising her in a house filled with God's love. To celebrate the dedication and Dads, we had friends and family over for lunch. It was awesome to spend a portion of my first Father's Day with my own Dad. Also awesome, a lunch buffet line dominated by deserts. I had changed out of my Sunday's best, for once not because I had spilled something on my shirt, but because it was Father's Day and Riley said I could, just to be more comfortable. I inadvertently dressed to match Riley and Aubrey's outfits. This truly was unintentional but fitting. We are all three so perfect for each other. Roo and I are the epitome of "opposites attract," like two very differently and uniquely shaped puzzle pieces that fit so perfectly together only with each other. Mommy and Aubrey have a most special and completely visible bond while AEJ and Daddy take the sweetest and perfect naps together...like the one we took just minutes after the last lunch guest walked out the front door. For dinner, and what I'd like to think/hope might become a Father's Day tradition, I had a juicy cheeseburger. I then owned the remote as every Dad should on this day. I watched a little golf, the Cubs game and even read the Sunday paper (comics and sports section always first). The day ended sweetly...with another piece of chocolate pound cake. It was my first Father's Day and will always hold a special place in my heart. I love Aubrey so much and I can't believe how much she has already changed my life. I am so lucky and blessed not only to be a Dad but to be her Dad. I write this not to broadcast or boast, but so that I never lose this touch with this emotional high. It doesn't need to be topped or duplicated but I thought I'd document it so that when I am old and grumpy and can't remember things as well, Aubrey can read this to me and remind me how perfect and precious this day was. And hopefully, she'll bring me a cheeseburger too.
